84-year-old veteran Fred Ricciutti defended his home against an intruder
with a Luger pistol from the Second World War
25-year-old Raymond Hiles was shot through the back of his neck and was
arrested a few blocks from Ricciutti's house carrying a screwdriver
and a stun-gun in the early hours of the morning
Appearing in court the next day after being apprehended by the Elizabeth Township police, it transpired that Hiles had grown up opposite to the Ricciutti's.
Ricciutti told the Associated Press that he accepted an apology from the suspect's family, who live across the street and came over in tears to apologize in the morning after the attempted robbery.
