The trial of former Icelandic Prime Minister Geir Haarde on charges of failing to prevent the country's 2008 financial crisis began at a special court in Reykjavik on Monday.

Haarde thus becomes the world's first political leader to be tried in connection with the global financial meltdown.

Iceland had the good fortune to escape the death grip of the Euro. They have gone back to basics and are well on the road to recovery.

Should whoever was president of the US in 2008 be tried?

do presidents control the economy? or does congress? unless it can be shown that both bodies manipulated the downfall, i'm choosing congress. and it wouldn't bother me a whole lot if presidents are tried with proof either.
