Huh. Interesting. I knew that not all the Village People were gay, but I'm surprised he's OK with Trump's use. It is hard to tell if he's in any way supportive of Trump or just realizes it's a fun song and someone seemed to like it and, hey, spins of it are going up overall and that makes him more money, it's all good.
What I DOUBT is that it was not a gay anthem. He may not have wanted it to be, not being a gay man, but it was pretty clear almost all of their songs from that time were significantly homoerotic at pretty much every level.
It's the same way I feel when I hear Buck Dharma of Blue Oyster Cult INSIST over and over that "Don't Fear the Reaper" ISN'T about suicide. I mean, you did read your lyrics, didn'tcha, Buck? (Oh and BTW that is one of the best songs ever written, imho)
