Ray Nagin, who captivated New Orleanians 12 years ago with a bold pledge to reform a crooked City Hall and went on to serve as the city’s mayor during its darkest time, was convicted by a federal jury Wednesday on 20 of 21 charges alleging that he traded official favors for cash and gifts from city vendors.

Eric A. Stevenson was convicted of taking bribes in return for helping four businessmen in his district.


A federal jury deliberated for roughly 90 minutes before returning a verdict finding Stevenson, 47, guilty of charges that included bribery, conspiracy to commit fraud and extortion.


The conviction of Stevenson, a Democrat in his second term, automatically vacates his seat.

A Democrat fundraiser was found guilty Friday of engineering a $21 million bank fraud scheme.


Courtney Dupree was convicted of vastly overstating the billings of his Long Island City-based lighting company GDC Acquisitions in order to fraudulently obtain a loan from Amalgamated Bank.


Dupree, 42, sat stone-faced as the verdict was read in Brooklyn Federal Court.


He faces up to 30 years in prison and has to pay back at least $18 million.

Estelle Carson, the woman named “Democrat of The Year” by the Jefferson County Democrat Party has been convicted of felony theft for stealing from a developmentally disabled 71-year-old woman.


Nearly as bothersome as the theft itself is the fact the Jefferson County Democrat Party was made aware of the ongoing criminal investigation and honored Carson anyway.


Carson had already confessed.
