Robert Marucci, known as “Noel” on an adult film website, was sent home Wednesday, Jan. 15 “pending the completion of an official investigation of alleged statements that were of a safety nature that officials needed to investigate,” Brevard County School District spokeswoman Michelle Irwin told ABC News.
Irwin declined to say what those statements were and the circumstances in which they were said, but said the school suspended Marucci, 18, on account of “safety and security issues credible enough that administrators needed to take action,” Irwin said.
A campus monitor overheard a group of students discussing Marucci’s off-campus job and Marucci was brought in to discuss it later that day with administration, she said.
Marucci was suspended the next day. According to Irwin, Marucci was cleared after two and a half days of investigation, and through an agreement with Principal Stephanie Soliven of Cocoa High School, Marucci returned to school today.
Irwin insisted Marucci, 18, was not suspended because of his role in porn.
“We would never suspend a student for their job, especially if it was legal,” Irwin said. “We have other students that have chosen different lifestyles and we have always provided the appropriate support and options for them. It is our number one goal for students to graduate,” Irwin added.
Marucci’s mother, Melyssa Lieb said she was fully aware and in full support of her son’s activities after school. Lieb told WKMG Local 6 “I think he’s the most awesome person in the world, he stood up and he was the man of the house when I couldn’t be,” citing financial hardship.
“I don’t think that this is anybody’s business except for my son’s,” said Marucci’s mother.
