I disagree. Canada would be 10 new states for each province, not one. The most conservative province, Alberta, might go for Republicans at first, but they are very for universal healthcare, and so would quickly go for Democrats. Our 51st state would undoubtedly elect two Democratic US senators, and at least 20 extra Democratic caucus representatives.
Statehood for Greenland would likely add another two Democratic US Senators.

Republicans could move to the left, and regain votes, but they would have to lose votes on the right. It cannot be the party supporting, and opposing universal healthcare at the same time.
Our pipe dreaming Republicans would want to add them as territories, like Puerto Rico. You're right, 20 new US senators. Possibly 4 of them center/right senators from Alberta and Saskatchewan, and 16 center/left Senators from the other former provinces, for a total gain of 12 US Senate seats for the Democratic caucus
Trump literally said he wanted to make Canada a state, which would give permanent control of the House of Representatives to a Democratic center-left caucus. Our pipe dreaming Republicans would want to add them as territories, like Puerto Rico.
