The Washington Post announced Monday that Jeff Bezos, the founder and CEO of Amazon.com, has agreed to buy the newspaper for $250 million.

Bezos has been described by friends as a libertarian, though RealClearPolitics notes that he usually donates to Democratic candidates.

Bezos donated six figures to fight a Washington state measure to impose an income tax on its wealthiest residents. He also pledged $2.5 million to defend the legality of gay marriage in Washington.

He's an odd one - used to donate to ALEC heavily, but also donated to marriage equality heavily.

Don't know what he'll do with the paper, but at least he has the money to keep it going. Let's hope for good stuff!

There is a reason they call it the WASHINGTON COMPOST for 40 years... Straight Liberal Rhetoric... the sale is just business as usual. Nothing will change.

Hm, I'll be. Nevermind my previous comments then. Good to see Libertarians expanding into traditional media, even though traditional media is dying.

Yeah, I find it so funny when the fossilized conservatives, like NOVA or SJJ, whine about MSM and fail to realize it's loss of relevance. Apparently, Fox's average viewer is over 65 and I doubt CNN or MSNBC viewers are all that much younger. Only the people who STILL can't figure out how to get their VCR (because they still have VCRs or just got one) to work watch that shit. You will hear these types go on and on about topics that are 20 to 30 years old.

I bet the aging demographics is true with newspapers, maybe even magazines. Maybe, Bezos will be able to reach the blue hairs but I doubt it. I gotta think he has some new tricks for the Washington Post in mind. Most will probably be strictly about business, but he knows the younger markets are more libertarian so he might change its editorial focus too.
