Emmy award-winning actress and singer Sheryl Lee Ralph will perform “Lift Every Voice and Sing” during the halftime show at the Super Bowl Sunday.

“Lift Every Voice and Sing” was first performed in 1900 by children at a segregated school in Jacksonville, Florida, to celebrate the anniversary of President Abraham Lincoln’s birthday.

I don’t think it will “trigger” anyone, in fact, most won’t even notice. Often wonder how many people actually watch the half time show.

If you have ever been at one of those big TV sporting events where they have a special TV entertainment component you’ll notice nearly everyone at the event other than a few located right infront of the stage know or even care what is going on. All orchestrated for TV
 
From 30K feet as America continues to diversify, Hispanics have surpassed black people as the country’s largest minority group and Asians are the fastest growing immigrant group, and more people from different races continue to intermarry and procreate this 1963 vision of America where everyone is basically either white or black and separated is antiquated.

Doesn’t mean we can’t celebrate black history, we should, but times are changing.

That’s why I referenced the inter marrying and procreation. For example, my daughter has black bi-racial cousins on one side of the family and Hispanic bi-racial cousins on the other side. That’s the reality of the world for someone her age. Not an uncommon thing.

Some folks still stuck in the 1960 racial demographics of America.

That covers all humans, blacks whites Asian Indians Hispanics, that are US citizens


Blacks or "any" race do not need their own ""SEPARATE"" song



If you want to separate your self from other Americans and make it all about you with your own song than you are not a true American

Prob less now that the halftime show has been low quality for so many years.

It is not just America, it is the whole world becoming a melting Pot. Granted we were the first example of a melting pot.

Diversity is reaching around the world now.

I know this is only one dynamic or example, but this is a very interesting statistic- English spoken in the world now!

FWIW, saying America is a melting pot is a racial microaggression. The reason for that is the implication that new people (minorities) to the country must 'melt' into the existing white supremacy/racist dominated culture.

The term Melting Pot may just be an Idiom or Metaphor, but I still think it is a great way to call it what it is.

I do not think that most immigrants that come here have microaggressions in mind. As most immigrants that come here, come here to escape the macroaggressions that exist in their native countries.

Its not immigrants stating the term is a racial microaggression, its those already in America. Just like saying America is a land of opportunity is a racial microaggression etc. The term woke gets used a lot but not using those terms is an example of being woke.

I predict the more 'woke' it is the larger the negative response will be across the board. If you recall, the NBA tried going woke only to find that it caused a hemorrhaging of fans and no end of fan complaints. So many in fact, that the NBA had to drop the whole idea to the point of officially banning it.
