Lily Ledbetter Fair Pay Act - The Women Get It

So Congress is set to undo the damage the Supreme Court did last session concerning wage discrimination. You may recall that the Supreme Court ruled that a plaintiff in a wage discrimination case must bring their claim within 180 days of the first discriminatory decision made by the employer, regardless of whether the employee knows that a discriminatory decision has been made.

The Senate passed the bill yesterday. Along with every Democrat, all of the female Republican Senators voted in favor of passage of the bill. All of the male Republican Senators with the lone exception of Arlen Specter voted against it.

Interesting. And people wonder why it might be important to have women Senators and why it might be important for a governor considering candidates to replace a female Senator to look for a female replacement from the outset.

Great points. And this was great news.

Unless its a conservative blue dog Democratic woman. And women Senators are free to run in every state as far as I know. If all liberal males will band together and vote for a woman, I'm sure Cypress will be glad to lead the charge, women can take over. And since women I believe outnumber men and each persons vote only counts once women have the advantage.

Cawacko, you have come up with a workable plan here.

Good one.

Maybe you missed the point: regardless of political ideology every woman in the Senate voted in favor of the bill. All of the male Republicans with the exception of one voted against it. The moral of the story is that it is important, regardless of political affiliation, to have women in the Senate.

While I did say liberal males could take the lead the main point is women outnumber men in this country thus you take all women and liberal males who support a woman and you can put a woman in almost every Senate seat. Now obviously not everyone is going to fall 100% in line but if the political will to do it is there the numbers are there.

And the requirements to get on a ballot for people to vote for you are?

Women do under use their leverage though.
They have more than half of the money and all of the whoopie.
I guess they take pity on men.

The women Repubs of the senate are fairly moderate and would be not unusual to side with Dems as they have done before.
If you see wage discrimination then you file suit right away as the previous law allowed, you don't wait til a bitter parting of a firing or a layoff where many would seek revenge and put forth frivolous lawsuits just to get back at their employer.

Alright, since you're apparently the arbiter of who is moderate and who ain't ans since you pray at the altar of the ACU ratings, what is a sufficient ACU rating to qualify as conservative?

As for the second thing you posted, you have no clue what you are talking about.

The only two women Republican senators I can think of are the ones from Maine, who make up two of the three moderate Republican senators left. Would Elizabeth Dole have voted for it?

I consider a moderate as someone who has a lifetime voting record of voting for the Conservative or Liberal side of issues between 30% to 70% of the time. Seems fair to me. Both Collins and Snowe are right around the 50% mark and as close to a pure moderate as you can get.
And I only use the ACU for convenience, feel free to use a liberal voting ranking site if you seek a different source but in my experience the rankings are almost all the same as there is nothing to spin, just a record of when they voted yay or nay and on what.

As for the second thing you posted, you have no clue what you are talking about.
Bullshit I don't, you implictly suggested in posting this that the Repubs just opposed it because they are sexist bigoted males, think women are inferior, yattta, yatta.
When in reality they specifically said over and over that they opposed it because it could result in frivolous lawsuits:
http://www.nytimes.com/2008/04/24/washington/24cong.html?_r=3&sq=&oref=slogin

Again, the whole reason you don't want people filing discrimination lawsuits from the date of their departure from a company and NOT from the date of their hiring is that they are often bitter and could seek (frivolous) legal action just to try and harm the employer who parted ways with them.
When you actually go out and work after college, you will come across people exactly like that, who get fired or laid off and are bitter at their employer. Yet more proof that makes me wonder more and more how little life experience you have.

You either have no clue what you are talking about or more likely you are being purposely dismissive because you can't argue the real reason for the opposition.

I think it will result in businesses NOT hiring women because they never know when they can be sued. OR they will just pay everyone less, equal but less. Thanks ladies. Keep up the good work.

Men get more because they're more willing to walk, because a man's identity and even value as a human being is more closely related to his earning potential. As the saying goes, women have choices, men have responsibilities.

until women stop choosing the richer mate, this will continue. Look in the mirrors girls, and understand reality.

1) Two conservative women Senators voted in favor of the bill: Lisa Murkowski (73.07 lifetime rating) and Kay Bailey Hutchison (90.27 lifetime rating).

2) What you are describing is so far off the mark it is impossible to rebut. It is just plain wrong. I'll tell you what, you do a little research on what the actual issue was in the Ledbetter case, the Court's decision in the Ledbetter case and how this bill simply undoes the Supreme Court's ridiculous ruling and then we can have a real discussion. I'm being purposely dismissive because that's what your nonsense calls for.

3) You have zero knowledge of my life experience (and age and employment status for that matter). If you want to throw around petty ad hominems based on your fantasies about me feel free. But, as with pretty much everything else you post about, you have no clue what you are talking about.

Good God, isn't his douchebag pretentious speech that he throws into every argument the most annoying in the world?

It's an attempt at special pleading, but it falls flat when he's talking to someone like Dungheap who has never discussed his age on here.

Dano is by far the most obnoxious douchebag on this board.
