Longest stretch of high unemployment since Great Depression

The rate of unemployment in the United States has exceeded
8 percent since February 2009, making the past
three years the longest stretch of high unemployment in
this country since the Great Depression. Moreover, the
Congressional Budget Office (CBO) projects that the
unemployment rate will remain above 8 percent until
2014. The official unemployment rate excludes those
individuals who would like to work but have not searched
for a job in the past four weeks as well as those who are
working part-time but would prefer full-time work; if
those people were counted among the unemployed, the
unemployment rate in January 2012 would have been
about 15 percent. Compounding the problem of high
unemployment, the share of unemployed people looking
for work for more than six months—referred to as the
long-term unemployed—topped 40 percent in December
2009 for the first time since 1948, when such data began
to be collected; it has remained above that level ever
since.

that stimulus really worked....obama...is amazing. can you imagine if a pub was president with these figures....the left would be screaming bloody murder

I am NOT standing up for Obama but if this is the worst recession since the Depression is it a surprise that it would also be the longest stretch of high unemployment since then?

No, the point of the post was to highlight how bad things actually still are and expected to remain, without policy changes. It further highlights how the Obama admin. is attempting to redefine the actual economic realities.

This is hilarious. What does the CBO, the source of the OP, say about the stimulus?

so the CBO is god?

make sure to tell that to all the unemployed people dung....i'm sure they will thank you for pointing them to the CBO.

idiot

Now there's a reasonable interpretation and response to my post. Nice work, Yurt!

Yurtsie used to quote CBO all of the time. Funny to read him try to discredit it.

As for the OP, it is rather shocking how much damage Bush caused...

On whose watch did the economy experience the worst crash in decades?

There's the guy who blew it up, and the guy who is taking longer than we thought to fix what the other guy blew up. Yeah - I still blame the guy who blew it up much more.

So, according to Yurt, it's wrong when someone ELSE does it...

really good response...when stumped, just make fun of the other person so your liberal buddies will think you're smart.

But apparently it's alright for him to make fun of the other person...

more substance....

It's perfectly acceptable for him.

More of Yurt's typical "do as I say and not as I do" attitude.

Everyone watch now as he tries to justify his double standard.

They tried to deny that this was the worst recession since the '30s yet now it is apparent to all, the new tactic is to say that Obama was totally responsible.
