Many hunters use AR15's

I keep hearing this talking point...AR15s aren't good for hunting. This talking point is patently false. It is advanced by people who know nothing about guns or hunting. AR15s are accurate, in a hunting caliber, easy to work on, and simple to customize. They will eventually supplant the bolt action rifle in the same way the bolt action rifle supplanted the lever action rifle and the lever action rifle supplanted the single shot.

At some point it's simply not hunting any more if your gun does all the work and you just have to pull the trigger.

Hunting is simply the acquisition of food or "game." How much difficulty or sport is desired by the hunter doesn't change that fact.

When a "hunter" can look through a scope and never even get close to their prey, can shoot from the front seat of a car, chooses game such as giraffes or elephants which do not provide meat, then it's not hunting. It's sport for fun.

What a gutless and dishonorable attitude.

Hunting with an assault rifle is like fishing with C4.

You ought to be slapped with a coup stick.

Who here thinks that hunter-gatherers would have continued to use spears if they had the option to use high-powered rifles and to stun fish with explosives? They didn't do it for the thrill of it, and would have had no issue with "overkill."

Our ancestors respected animals, you degenerate .

Hunting is more than just pulling a trigger, that's why it's called hunting.

Not with today's weaponry. I would venture to guess most "hunters" wouldn't have the guts to get close the game they hunt if it was required of them. Shooting an animal from comfortable safe distance isn't really hunting. Kind of like soldiers who have no problem dropping bombs on civilians but would have a hard time shooting one point blank.

What would make you happy? Was the upgrade from bow to crossbow a deal-breaker for you?

Not when you do it with an Ar. Spray an animal with bullets and call yourself a hunter and sportsman. . I was a marksman. Some of the bullets hit the deer.

My personal happiness about how people hunt is not the point. I was merely stating that it's simply not hunting when it takes minimal effort on your part. True you end up with an animal and hopefully not just to hang a dead head on your wall to brag about for years to come but our ancestors hunted. What they did and what we do now has no relation. I hear hunters say that went out hunting and SAT IN A TREE for 3 days waiting for something to come along and take the bait we set out for it. Please. You think our ancestors had that kind of time to get food on the table? It's just sport now.

This thread,is a perfect example of gun nuts justify anything to pretend a weapon of war,is just another hunting gun to hunt sparrows! :-)

I don't consider the prospect of hunting to be an enjoyable or pleasurable prospect, so I have no plans to ever hunt. If I were to hunt, it would have to be for the purpose of putting food on the table. But I would use the best weaponry at my disposal to get the job done.

I should add that people might have to sit and wait for game due to a fundamental lack of tracking skills. Our ancestors, out of necessity, had to hone expert tracking skills in order to survive and not go days without food. Much like how few people today can still ride a horse.
