Martin Luther (1483–1546) was a German professor of theology, priest and seminal leader of the Reformation. His positions on Judaism continue to be controversial. These changed dramatically from his early career, where he showed concern for the plight of European Jews to his later years, when embittered by his failure to convert them to Christianity, he became outspokenly antisemitic in his statements and writings. Recent historical studies have focused on Luther's influence on modern antisemitism, with a particular focus on Adolf Hitler and the Nazis.

  • "First, to set fire to their synagogues or schools … This is to be done in honor of our Lord and of Christendom, so that God might see that we are Christians …"
  • "Second, I advise that their houses also be razed and destroyed."
  • "Third, I advise that all their prayer books and Talmudic writings, in which such idolatry, lies, cursing, and blasphemy are taught, be taken from them."
  • "Fourth, I advise that their rabbis be forbidden to teach henceforth on pain of loss of life and limb …"
  • "Fifth, I advise that safe-conduct on the highways be abolished completely for the Jews. For they have no business in the countryside …"
  • "Sixth, I advise that usury be prohibited to them, and that all cash and treasure of silver and gold be taken from them …"
  • "Seventh, I recommend putting a flail, an ax, a hoe, a spade, a distaff, or a spindle into the hands of young, strong Jews and Jewesses and letting them earn their bread in the sweat of their brow … But if we are afraid that they might harm us or our wives, children, servants, cattle, etc., … then let us emulate the common sense of other nations such as France, Spain, Bohemia, etc., … then eject them forever from the country …"

In 1543 Luther published On the Jews and Their Lies in which he says that the Jews are a "base, whoring people, that is, no people of God, and their boast of lineage, circumcision, and law must be accounted as filth." They are full of the "devil's feces ... which they wallow in like swine. The synagogue was a "defiled bride, yes, an incorrigible whore and an evil slut ..."

Christians and Jews have been going cats and dogs for about 1500 years before Martin Luther. After the Christians took Rome under Constantine the Great, they, by default, took Jerusalem. Anti-Christianism was killed by sheer numbers and power leaving Anti-Semitism to grow.

In those days, different sects of Christians were pretty good at killing each other off. Martin Luther's break from the Catholic church would result in a lot of conflicts.

Growing up in a Fundie home and church, it's always been between Jews/Arabs, building the Third Temple, oh and do not forget about the Crusades.

Weird how they always blame the Arabs/Muslims.

Smaller groups often have a chip on their shoulder. A "Us against the World" attitude. The large groups know they invulnerable and often don't give a shit.

Jerusalem and Judea are the center of all three Abrahamic religions. All have a vested interest in controlling the region. Israel has right of possession.

Eventually it'll all work out or short-range nukes will start flying. LOL

What's weird is that there are Arab, especially Palestinian, citizens living in Israel.

I suppose there are intelligent people who won't take the bullshit.

And there's something else.... where does the hatred for the Squad come from? We have to wonder.

Different subject on "the Squad" since that's more about Trumpian racism than religion. It is funny because Trumpians are pro-Israel/anti-American brown people.

A landmark report released by the Church of England in November this year concluded that the that Christian theology played a part in the “stereotyping and persecution of Jewish people which ultimately led to the Holocaust”.

“Conscious of the participation of Christians over the centuries in stereotyping, persecution and violence directed against Jewish people, and how this contributed to the Holocaust, Christians today should be sensitive to Jewish fears,” the report said.

It added that, for centuries, Christian attitudes towards Judaism have provided a “fertile seed-bed for murderous anti-Semitism”

Frederick Schweitzer notes that the studies of the 20th century Nazi holocaust against the Jews invoked racism and pseudo-science, but failed to recognise adequately the Christian antecedents of the Jew-hatred.

Schweitzer holds Christian antisemitism as the “ultimate causal agent” of the Holocaust. He says that the while the church didn’t initiate the holocaust, the “Holocaust could have never occurred without the antisemitic ideology that originated in the New Testament and the church fathers”.

In his book A Concise History of American Antisemitism, Schweitzer points out that all other forms of antisemitism - racial, cultural, economic or others - are transposed renderings of the original Christian form.
