Mass Governor Proposes JAIL TIME for online gamblers (me)

That's ridiculous. There's no way it will pass.

There's a bill in the house to legalize gambling in games of skill. But, well, we all know what having "a bill in the house" means.

"In a bill to allow three brick-and-mortar casinos in the Bay State, Massachusetts governor Deval Patrick has proposed two-year jail terms and a $25,000 fine for folks caught gambling online."

FUCK. THAT.

No that's good.

If we arrest all of the gamblers, and put them with all of the non-violent drug offenders we already have in prison, we are going to need even more prisons, and with the way things are going, building prisons for the poor and the addicted, and scrubbing the floors on the yachts of the super-rich will be the only jobs left for the middle class.

So, we'll need this law.

think about all the money building a new jail will bring into a community. and all those laid off Blackwater storm troopers can get jobs as prision guards.

More millionaires every day :clink:

It will pass. Remember, we live in a fascist state. In georgia the big liquor distributors succeeded in making it illegal to order a bottle wine over the internet from out of state.

Gambling execpt at authorized locations is pretty much illegal everywhere anyway. The internet is just a way around that law. but really does not exclude you from those laws.

it's the hypocrisy that this is contained in a bill that proposes three casinos in my dumbass state.

Do you think that we should imprison them, though?

This is nothing other than states getting angry at not getting tax dollars from them. This is an evil , greedy, selfish bill. To destroy someone's life FOR MONEY. They're no better than sociopaths.

Yeah, well, Grind, does it say it's a mandatory minimum setnence? If it weren't a mandatory minimum, I'm sure any judge would see how ridiculous it was. They probably wouldn't give you any more than probation.

Probably not watermark but the fact that the state would have the right to imprison me anyway is still enough reason to piss me the fuck off. And quite frankly, probation is still too much.

Definitely.

Dude, I can see, for instance, banning internet slot machines that are biased nearly 90% against the users. But games of skill like poker... it's absolutely ridiculous to ban them. To even consider giving judges the oppurtunity of giving JAIL TIME is just another degree of ridiculousness. It pisses me off just as much as you, and I don't even gamble online.

Well the anti gambling laws that the net players are circumventing but breaking the intent of the law have been on the books for many many years....

Anti-gambling laws are usually stupid. Pro-gaming laws are usually proposed for nothing other than money for the state. But proposing jail time for "gambling" in games of skill like poker, do you agree with that? That's not really even very biased to the house. I don't know how that could possibly be construed as morally wrong.

For Christ sake, we're considering giving Grind a jail sentence greater than we would give to an armed robber?

For BETTING that just happens to be online?

Should we put guys who play poker in their garage in jail for 10 years too?

The punishments should be the same for all gambling activities lableled illegal.
Now if the law is changed, well that is an entirely different story.
I am not saying the law is right. Just that the net method of gambling is already in violation intent wise of most states anti gambling laws.

but THIS state is legalizing gambling and building 3 casinos. (technically 4). You suck uscitizen, as usual.
