Massachusetts to Vote on Gay Marriage Ban

It's mostly in very small outlets so far but it appears that the Massachusetts legislature has given just enough support to the same sex marriage amendment to advance it to the ballot. Some AP stories are saying there were 61 votes for and 132 against, but it needed only 50 votes to make it to the statewide ballot.

how do you take away rights that a state has given you?

seems hardly fair.
I agree that it's unfair but hysterical homophobia -- or any other kind of hysterical phobia -- isn't much about fair.

Honestly, though, I think that the statewide ballot may be a victory afterall. It's an amendment, so it would need more than a simple majority to pass, I believe. It may not even get that much, which would be a real embarrassment to the anti-gay demagogues.
