House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) called for an inquiry into the Jan. 6 Capitol riot just days after the attack, arguing that the events of that day should not be dismissed.

McCarthy said at the time that he was "committed" to finding justice after the events of that day in early 2021 during a private meeting with members of the GOP, according to an audio excerpt from New York Times reporters Alexander Burns and Jonathan Martin obtained by CBS.

McCarthy also said he had spoken with then-President Donald Trump on Jan. 6 and urged him to take action to stop what was happening at the Capitol.

Celticguy says it was a peaceful assembly to petition the government, as is their right under the First Amendment. (I don't know if the Constitution covers threatening to hang the Vice President, I haven't checked.)

Maybe they should all be given medals?
