Measles outbreak expands in West Texas around county with low vaccination rate

Yep. Thanks to the anti-science folks.
Before the vaccine

  • Before the measles vaccine was available in 1963, the U.S. experienced about 500 deaths per year from measles.
  • Measles was a highly contagious disease that affected 3–4 million people annually.
  • Nearly every child got measles by age 15.

Texas's worst measles outbreak in 48 years confined to a "close-knit, under vaccinated" religious community

The ongoing measles outbreak in West Texas has doubled in size to 48 cases, mostly in children and teens, making it the state’s worst in nearly 30 years.

State health officials said Friday in a news release that those who are infected are either unvaccinated or their vaccination status is unknown. Thirteen people have been hospitalized.

The cases have been concentrated in a “close-knit, undervaccinated” Mennonite community, Texas Department of State Health Services spokesperson Lara Anton said. Gaines County is highly rural, so many of the families send their children to small private schools or are homeschooled, Anton said.

“The church isn’t the reason that they’re not vaccinated,” Anton said. “It’s all personal choice and you can do whatever you want. It’s just that the community doesn’t go and get regular health care.”

Anton said the state is working with local health officials to increase screening and vaccination efforts. Health officials are also working to educate school officials on identifying measles symptoms and encouraging families to vaccinate their kids.

Ah, so it's some cult not even native to Texas. Nothing to see here.

Now for some stats on how the Democrats' border rush is playing out re diseases and illegal immigration.

TB disproportionately impacts people living along the Texas-Mexico border.

In 2022, border counties represented 21.2 percent of TB cases in Texas, although only 9.5 percent of the Texas population live in a border county.

And then there is all that money wasted on 'AIDS Awareness' in the homosexual 'community', that has had little effect among that 'community', which of course leads not only in new HIV infections but also syphilis and drug resistant staph, and other diseases.

So, we have thousands of new TB cases, compared with 48 measles cases. lol

So you agree to vaccinations?

As of Friday afternoon, the outbreak has jumped to 14 confirmed cases and six probable cases among people who are symptomatic and had close contact with infected individuals, Zach Holbrooks, executive director of the South Plains Public Health District, told CNN.

Just goes to show the influence of anti-science nutjobs on the American public. They scream about the unborn but don't give a shit if kids die of easily preventable diseases.

Measles is an airborne, extremely infectious, and potentially severe rash illness. Before the measles vaccine was introduced, an estimated 48,000 people were hospitalized and 400–500 people died in the United States each year.
