Meteorologists Get Death Threats as Hurricane Milton Conspiracy Theories Thrive

As Hurricane Milton approaches Florida, meteorologists are staying awake for days at a time trying to get vital, life-saving information out to the folks who will be affected. That’s their job. But this year, several of them tell Rolling Stone, they’re increasingly having to take time out to quell the nonstop flow of misinformation during a particularly traumatic hurricane season. And some of them are doing it while being personally threatened.

“People are just so far gone, it’s honestly making me lose all faith in humanity,” says Washington D.C.-based meteorologist Matthew Cappucci, in a phone interview conducted while he was traveling down to Florida for the storm. “There’s so much bad information floating around out there that the good information has become obscured.”

“For me to post a hurricane forecast and for people to accuse me of creating the hurricane by working for some secret Illuminati entity is disappointing and distressing, and it’s resulting in a decrease in public trust,” says Cappucci. He says he hasn’t slept in multiple days and is exhausted. This last week he received hundreds of messages from people accusing him of modifying the weather and creating hurricanes from space lasers.

Telling people for days and all the way up to landfall that the storm surge is likely to to be 12-15 feet and "If you stay you will die".....and having reality turn out be a negative storm surge 10 inches of rain and 85mph winds.....in other word nothing special......is a problem.

Fortunately, moar people know who to listen to...who to trust...and who to ignore...

Fox News should be shut down during emergencies.

Katrina was so bad because over many years and many storms the experts and politicians kept being wrong about what was coming....playing it up big, and people in response doing things that were not necessary....often at great expense.....the people ignored the warnings.

Forecasters and politicians cant be as wrong as they were about Tampa a lot and retain credibility....they should try very hard being this wrong,

So you don't listen to actual meteorologists for the forecast? What do you prefer, a Ouija Board? Magic 8 Ball? Tea leaves? lol

Yeah, Toxic's married boyfriend H10 was spreading those stupid rumors here a couple of days ago. There is nothing so crazy that the psychos won't embrace it.

You really are a fucking moron, #10.

Do you live in a "residence" where your son and "the slut" visit you on Christmas and your birthday?

This is due to the influence of MAGAt Congressional reps who incite crazy and violent people to attack Americans.

Exactly. Politics doesn't make people crazy but it does attract them. When we have leaders who spout crazy shit as Trump, Vance and MTG are doing, the crazies will act on the information as @Guno צְבִי 's OP proves.

The only people who did damage were the ones who spoke during the press conference with Joe and Kam... Thankfully , not very many people listened to them anymore...
