Michigan officials say they can’t overturn election for him

According to CNN White House correspondent Joe Johns, Donald Trump is in “desperation mode” as he pins his hopes on stealing away Michigan’s 16 Electoral College votes in his bid to remain in office.

With Georgia certifying their votes totals and handing the state to President-elect Joe Biden, the president has been pushing for help from Republican officials in Michigan to contest votes in their state at the same time lawmakers in the state are brushing aside the president’s assertions about election irregularities.

Speaking with hosts Jim Sciutto and Poppy Harlow, Johns said things are not going the president’s way.

“The bottom line is it’s pretty clear that the president is in desperation mode right now, this is the Hail Mary pass to try to get the Michigan and other battleground state legislatures to move in, overturn the popular vote and pretty much name electors that wouldn’t otherwise have been sent to Washington in the Electoral College, and it doesn’t sound like it’s going to work, quite frankly,” Johns told the hosts. “In fact, we do know that the president has invited the Michigan speaker of the house as well as the Michigan Republican majority leader of the senate in the legislature there, here to Washington, D.C.”

“Not clear at all that the speaker is coming, he sent word on CNN this morning that he had not confirmed for the meeting, but it’s a different story for the Senate majority leader of the Michigan legislature: his name is Mike Shirkey, and there is every indication that he is on his way here.”

“There is video on social media of him apparently at the airport but it’s not clear at all that’s going to do what the president wants him to do,” he added. “In fact, he’s made it quite clear in a recent interview that he has no intention of overturning the election in Michigan and his office has put out word, in fact, that there’s no provision in Michigan law for electors to be named other than those who would vote for the person who won the popular vote in their state.”

‘I think it’s also important to say that this is the kind of situation that really doesn’t fly for any of the battleground states,” he told the CNN hosts. “The most interesting thing about this, of course, is if they overturn the election in Michigan, it’s not just for the president of the United States, it’s for everyone who ran.

You know the funny thing, the legal battle is done, Trump’s lawyers are so incompetent, they use Minnesota’s data for Michigan. Rudy isn’t worth $20,000 a day.

Here’s the problem: the townships and precincts listed in paragraphs 11 and 17 of the affidavit are not in Michigan. They are in Minnesota. Monticello, Albertville, Lake Lillian, Houston, Brownsville, Runeberg, Wolf Lake, Height of Land, Detroit Lakes, Frazee, Kandiyohi–these are all towns in Minnesota. I haven’t checked them all, but I checked a lot of them, and all locations listed in paragraphs 11 and 17 that I looked up are in Minnesota, with no corresponding township in Michigan. This would have been obvious to someone from this state, but Mr. Ramsland is a Texan and the lawyers are probably not natives of either Minnesota or Michigan.
Evidently a researcher, either Mr. Ramsland or someone working for him, was working with a database and confused “MI” for Minnesota with “MI” for Michigan. (The postal code for Minnesota is MN, while Michigan is MI, so one can see how this might happen.) So the affidavit, which addresses “anomalies and red flags” in Michigan, is based largely, and mistakenly, on data from Minnesota.
This is a catastrophic error, the kind of thing that causes a legal position to crash and burn. Trump’s lawyers are fighting an uphill battle, to put it mildly, and confusing Michigan with Minnesota will at best make the hill steeper. Credibility once lost is hard to regain. Possibly Trump’s lawyers have already discovered this appalling error, and have undertaken to correct it. But the Ramsland Affidavit was filed in Georgia just yesterday.

Michigan was not even that close, Biden won by >160,000 (50.6% to 47.8%).

Lukashenko of Belarus and Putin of Russia are infamous for rigging elections to thwart the will of the people.

Republicans are the only major party in Western civilization I am aware of which is keen on thwarting the democratic will of the voters and willfully trying to make us oligarchies akin to Republic of Belarus and Russian Federation.

This idea is creepy scary.

If Trump got away with this it would be a total breakdown of Democracy.

Disregarding an election of the people by the people could lead to a revolution.

Biggest question in all of this is where are the Republicans?

I understand partisanship, but his is becoming the theater of the absurd, literally discarding five and half million Michigan voters, not to mention setting dangerous precedents for the future

Doesn’t anybody in the GOP have a pair

Hello Trumpet,

These fools are getting a comedy show for their money, and I hope they get a got laugh out of it.

It is a sick joke on America which has resulted in the CDC advising people not to even see their family on Thanksgiving.

It didn't have to be this way.

The disease has been far worse than Trump's 'cure.' (ignoring it, pretending it's not a problem)
