Millions of Americans Facing Financial Ruin Because of the Pandemic

Andrew Yang had a version of the UBI (Universal Basic Income) that was fully funded and was set to become part of the 'fabric' of American Economic Life.

So ... 'necessary evil' is only true if you believe the CURRENT economic system is working.
$1000 a month is not enough to live on. I remind you we had a roaring economy going into the shut down.

So basically your answer is to forget about trying to open up to make wages/profits and rely on a government handout instead

valid point . no need to apologize. The thing is we all focus on COVID, but we are not focusing on the terrible economic costs hitting millions of families.

Which is why I say to open all up.
I have to shop for my elderly mother, and sister with a compromised immune system
So I do treat exposure like the plague -i have protocol beyond just masks.

If someone is in my situation they need to take extra care -healthy young people -a mask is fine
( and mostly being mandatory)

but again..look at the economy and what is happening to people far beyond just the virus.
They have to work, they are out of resources

While I agree with you I don't think it is quiet as bad for many as they are working from home. Or in jobs that never closed such as some retail sales. The people hardest hit are food service, travel (airlines, bus, train), hotel, tourist industry, schools, retail, and jobs that can't be done from home. My bride and I are in our mid 70's so we are high risk but we still go shopping and mostly grocery shopping and wear our masks. We use hand sanitizer wipes after touching carts and credit card machines.

FYI a little tip. Take a few sanitizer wipes like Clorox wipes and place them in a zip lock bag then you can clean your hands before touching your personal stuff. A zip lock bag will keep the wipes damp for days.

I keep a bottle of hand sanitizer in the car. Some stores have hand wipes -i'll wipe down after loading up the car..

we are now 14.4 % unemployment

1. A 'System' would be in place to put 'Purchasing Power' in the hands of Consumers.
2. The 'amount' could be changed as times changed.
3. No one would get wealthy on just a Government subsidy but they could survive.

I'm not proposing doing away with 'Wages & Profit'.

Millions of Americans are not facing financial ruin because of the pandemic. Millions of Americans are facing financial ruin because of the irrational actions of elected officials who bought the doomsday scenarios peddled by COVIDACTNOW.org.

The source of the virus from China is China. They lied about the source and their number of fatalities. They would not share data with our health professionals that might have mitigated their virus from China. They nailed shut the doors of those with the virus from China They did not stop flights out of China and the virus from China spread around the world.

China must be held accountable for the hundreds of thousands of deaths and the economic loss around the world.

Count on the far left loon apologists to defend China.

yes. we need to open up. all the way, and use social distancing and keep high risk at home

The idea of the shutdown was to make sure hospitals wern't over-run to capacity

we have that with state welfare -why do we need fed welfare?
And then there is the costs -any concern with that? we just did emergency stimulus for like $4 T
how much moer do you want to go?

States don't have the resources of the Federal Government.
You have to be able to fund the expenditures.
Do you see THIS as a Problem:

"Amazon Will Pay a Whopping $0 in Federal Taxes on $11.2 Billion Profits"

"The first wave of the 1918 pandemic hit in the spring and was considered relatively mild, but later that fall, a second, much deadlier wave hit. Hospitals became so overloaded with patients that schools, private homes, and other buildings had to be converted into makeshift, emergency substitutes."

Yes, let's open up. At least when the second wave hits in the fall we know damn well trump will lose the election.

How the hell is blaming someone else going to save anyone here. Just like trump, blame someone else.

The blame goes to those who are responsible for the pandemic...the Chinese.

so you want to stay closed?
the whole thread is about the misery and loss of income by millions of Americans in labor or business

We HAVE to open up,and we need to do it ASAP to get people back to work.
Incorporate social distancing/telecommuting etc . but open up

I do. there needs to be some kind of corporate minimums. but that's not the same thing as the feds taking over welfare

I don't see it as 'Welfare'.
With 'automation, robotics, and artificial intelligence' taking over more and more human jobs, it's a way of insuring 'Purchasing Power' of 'Consumers'.
This Pandemic illustrates what the Future will be ... less Jobs for Humans.

enough of the phase in. Open up all business and practice social distancing; those at high risk need to stay home.

as Trump said "The cure can be worse then the disease"

Trump didn’t actually come up with that cliche, he stole it from a Fox talking head, definitely the TV President

So ultimately, you are willing to accept the opportunity cost of thousands of Americans suffering preventable deaths in order to “open all businesses?“

No one is opposed to reopening the economy, but it has to be done strategically, just opening up would only make matters worse

Millions of Americans are not facing financial ruin because of the pandemic. Millions of Americans are facing financial ruin because of the irrational actions of elected officials who bought the doomsday scenarios peddled by COVIDACTNOW.org.

And also because of Victim Culture....people have been trained to be victims, to curl up and die when faced with adversity, to run and hide when their minders yell "SAFETY!".
