More Troops to Afghan

nation building has long ago failed. Obama's Surge failed. Bush's war failed
Building a middle class failed ( the country runs on corruption not commerce).

There is only 1 reason to stay, and it's not nationbuilding -but counterterrorism..

we are basically at a stalemate with the US air support almost able to keep the ANAF ( Afghan national armed forces) viable in the field against the Taliban

But Kabul is a war zone with continuous bombings and "green on blue"killings.

There is no winning anything in Afghanistan..BUT there is killing ISIS and al-Qaeda and Taliban..

Run it as one huge counter-terrorism op,and let Russia move in and pacify and profit off our mistake.

I hate being there. We should have never gone in. but we are,and we can't let it become a full terrorist state.

also we're looking more to India!! ( we have much more in common w/India then Paki)

4k is about right. that puts us able to extend power embedded with ANAF, and still MEDIVAC and air support.
Kabul is still a worry.but we're going to hit back hard in Helmand!

Knowing what we know now after 20 years of half-hearted measures and/or unilaterally pulling out, he's listened to the military experts and going with their knowledge and experience. The speech he made was something the troops have been waiting a long time to hear. "We're there to win!"

You sound exactly, and I mean exactly like the NeoCons ten years ago when they lectured me about why we needed to stay in Iraq and keeping fighting there.


My opinion is that 1) Afghans are never going to take the fight to the enemy themselves if they know they can count on the American Air Force, Army, and Special Forces to ride to the rescue, and 2) One thing the Soviets learned, and is still true today, is that no matter how much you try to stand up an Afghan National Army, if they are seen as puppets, a proxy of the great global world powers they will never have the legitimacy they really need to be successful.
