Actually its a projection.
It could be as high as 241 seats, or as low as 221 seat, according to NBC. 231 being the median pick.
All projections = majority.
It's very good news.
It looks like we'll fall short in the Senate. I'm most happy about Ohio. Unlike a lot of optimists, for instance Howard Dean, I have given up on the South, on Red America. To me, watching what happened to the polls in TN after the repugs ran their little racist ad, tells that story. And that means we must have Ohio in order to win the Presidency. The Republicans in that state are so corrupt, that would be nearly impossible with them in power there. But tonight to me, was the revenge of Ohio. They booted their corrupt asses out and that is going to be huge for the dems in 08.
And it has been most amusing to watch these pukes, who have called bipartisanship "date rape" when they were riding high, on tv tonight talking about bipartinship. They are so lucky I am not Nancy Pelosi because I would tell them, on the phone and off camera, what they could do with their new spirit of bipartisanship, I can tell you that. That would be the first call they would be getting.
Tonight is a very good night, all things considered.

I wonder why?
Because right wingers are bullies Cypress. They hunt in packs, and they like the odds overwhelmingly in their favor. When those criteria are met, they are merciless and mean.
But when the odds are a little more even, like all bullies, they start the whining. I can only hope that the senior dems, who will be calling the shots are really smart. Smart enough to talk about bipartisanship in front of the cameras, and govern the way the repugs did behind closed doors. Because you cannot give these thugs one inch. You just cannot. And there is a lot at stake here.
I'm having a glass of wine and gloating!
It's really amazing. Only a few months ago they said it couldn't be done because of gerrymandering. Another bit of conventional wisdom down the drain.

Because, unless you like Gridlock, it's the only option. If the choice is, to implement a conservative agenda or gridlock, I choose implementation of a conservative agenda, but if the choice is to have gridlock or implement a liberal agenda, I prefer gridlock.
I don't really care if Democrats want to be bipartisan or not, I kinda think they will refuse to be bipartisan, as they have been so far, and this little "victory" isn't going to give them reason to change. This essentially means two more years of gridlock, and that is fine with me. I actually think this is helpful in pushing the party towards its conservative roots more, which is a good thing in the long run.

Bush and his rush to Iraq created a whole new generation of independent voters, and redefined both parties (to the benefit of Democrats). Bush is now the official "minority maker" in chief, and a complete lame duck.

Gee thanks, but I don't trust anyone who starts with "trust me". There is no revolution, there is a lack of representation of conservative values. You can make any evaluation you like on this election, from what I can see, the only races the Democrats won, were run by moderate Democrats, not liberals.
As I said, I actually think it will be a good thing for Republicans, it gives them an opportunity to look at what went wrong, and why their base didn't come through. My opinion is, it's because they abandoned conservative principles, immigration, spending, standing up to the threats of filibuster, etc. In the meantime, America can sample a taste of liberals in charge, and see how they like it. Being that about 60% of America is Conservative, I think they will like it, not so much.
We'll see.
If all the GOP learns from this is that they can't just rely on campaigning against gays & Kerry, and that Americans aren't stupid enough to buy into a campaign theme of "if you vote for Democrats, you support terrorists & will die", then they will have made monumental strides...

In fact, I think the Republicans are breaking out the Champagne and celebrating their great loss, because it was just what they and Bush wanted wasn't it??? Yeah, in fact at his press conference tomorrow Bush and Rove are both going to tell the nation that their plan all along was to lose the House and the Senate and the Governorships for the long term GOOD of the Republican Party. I know that is what they will be saying...

The republican party abandoned the political middle. The democrats claimed it. That's pretty much always the extent of power shifts in America. The republicans will always have their base and so will the democrats. Clearly, the great middle of the bell curve was captured by the democratic party.
The republican party came to be associated too intimately with a terrible failed foreign policy in Iraq, and with incompetence, cronyism, and corruption at home... and their inept, moronic leader was emblematic of all of that. This was a national referendum on the mission/goals statement of the Bush administration... and America rejected it.
I think we may be witnessing the beginning of the end of the neoconservative movement and, hopefully, the beginning of the end of the dominance of the mean-spirited hateful religious right over the GOP.
