JACKSON - Mississippi's three Democratic congressman have voted against a $700 billion government bailout bill for the battered financial industry.

The bill passed the House Friday and was signed by President Bush.

Republican Rep. Chip Pickering voted for the bill, while Democrats Travis Childers, Bennie Thompson and Gene Taylor voted against it.

On Wednesday, both of Mississippi's U.S. senators, Republicans Thad Cochran and Roger Wicker, voted against the bailout bill in the Senate.

So, basically, everyone who was up for election voted against it. Who wants to bet that the party leaders set it up specifically so that people in weak districts could vote against it while the bill still passed with the safe seat votes (which is like 90% of congress) and without the votes of the populists?

It took Wicker all of twelve or so hours to produce commericals pumping him up on this issue. He saw some dollar signs in his eyes, and it had nothing to do with his opinion on the bailout bill.
