My favorite television pundits. I tend to NOT like the party operatives and apparatchiks. They only spew party talking points. The one’s I like, tend to not be party operatives, and are more independent-minded:
-Katrina Vanden Huevel: Editor of the Nation. Cool, calm, and brilliant. Best progressive voice on cable news.
-Pat Buchanan: Don’t agree with him on much. But, when he’s on televison I can’t take my eyes off him (no, I don’t mean that in a gay way ). He’s always passionate, and entertaining.
-Scott Ritter: Former Iraq weapons inspector. If the DC and Media aristocracy had listened to him, we wouldn’t even be in Iraq. Every time he was on cable news during the run up to the war, he totally shredded every pro-war hawk on the Fox News or MSNBC set. Absolutely factual, concise, and clear, he almost single handedly convinced me that the charges about WMD were dubious, and that the invasion was unnecessary. Fox News pulled him off the air sometime in December 2002, for some strange reason - even though his contract was not up.
-Juan Cole: Best non-partisan Middle East expert around. He’s not enough of a political hack to make it on Fox or MSNBC, so he mostly shows up on PBS. He’s been right about EVERYTHING on Iraq. He’s predicted, correctly, virtually everything that has happened.
-David Brooks: NY Times columnist. Entertaining as hell. He’s always wrong about Iraq. Whenever I want to know what NOT to do about Iraq, I listen to David Brooks.
-Tom Friedman: Another NY Times columnist. I like him for entertainment value, too. He’s always wrong. He’s been saying for three years that we should “give Iraq 6 more months”, before throwing in the towel. Also, if you want to roll on the floor laughing your ass off, listen to his predictions about the alleged benefits of neoliberal “free” trade agreements like NAFTA and CAFTA.
-Ariana Huffington: Another great progressive voice, who is not a walking, talking robot of Democratic talking points. A close second to Katrina Vanden Huevel.
