I hope we can all agree on a few things:

1. We have $36 trillion of national debt growing at a rapid rate that must be refinanced and reissued at a materially higher interest rate as our bonds come due and as new funds are needed.

2. We had a $1.8 trillion deficit in fiscal 2024.

3. There is an enormous amount of fraud, waste, and inappropriate spending in our government budget.

It is evident that @elonmusk has a proven ability to convert a dysfunctional organization and turn it into a highly-functioning one while massively reducing wasteful overhead and other spending. See Twitter (now 𝕏).

@realDonaldTrump won the election on a promise to cut wasteful government spending that interferes with our country’s progress. President Trump announced during his campaign that Elon would be appointed to oversee @DOGE. The voters knew, or should have known, that this was going to be the case.

In other words, the majority of voters signed up for DOGE with Elon as its leader.

I believe we are extremely fortunate to have one of our greatest business leaders and entrepreneurs devote a considerable amount of his limited time for free to help our country.

We are extremely fortunate that some of our most talented young people have signed on to help DOGE succeed.

DOGE is just getting started and has already identified a massive amount of waste and likely fraud, and has begun cutting a material amount of costs.

It is axiomatic that those who are beneficiaries of waste, fraud and unnecessary government spending will be the most threatened by the cuts that DOGE is making in these programs.

These beneficiaries of waste and fraud are also likely to be extremely worried about the reputational, legal and potential criminal risks they may suffer by being exposed by DOGE's activities.

The beneficiaries of government waste, fraud and inappropriate spending will understandably protest loudly and may give plausible-sounding reasons why DOGE must be stopped; because their careers and livelihoods would be put at risk by DOGE’s success.

The duly-elected president has stated clearly that he is overseeing DOGE’s activities and that no important decisions will be made without his consent.

Our legal system is in place to ensure that no laws are broken as DOGE executes its mission.

Other efforts over the last many decades to eliminate government waste and fraud have failed.

DOGE is our best hope for correcting the fundamentally-flawed and highly ineffective bureaucratic system running our country.

Elon and President Trump will doubtless face enormous pressure and pushback from those who have benefited the most from the current system.

All Americans who believe in the rule of law should therefore make their voices heard.

Tell the world that you support DOGE, Elon, and our president’s efforts to help our country, as long as they proceed legally.

We cannot afford to let DOGE fail. Our country is on the path to insolvency. I hope that none of you want that.

Let’s not let our country down.

Do your part in making sure our Congressmen and Senators know that we are behind the president, Elon and DOGE.

It’s the least you can do.

ICYMI:

Several past administrations have offered buyouts, known officially as Voluntary Separation Incentive Payments (VSIP), to federal employees as a means to downsize or restructure government agencies. Here are some notable examples:
  • Clinton Administration: During the Clinton administration in the 1990s, there were significant downsizing efforts, and buyouts were used extensively. The Federal Workforce Restructuring Act of 1994 provided authority for agencies to offer buyouts during downsizing, which aimed at reducing the size of the federal government.
  • George W. Bush Administration: In 2005, following the creation of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the integration of multiple agencies into DHS, buyouts were offered to manage workforce transitions and reduce redundancy. Also, in response to budget constraints and other restructuring efforts, buyouts were used in various departments.
  • Obama Administration: Buyouts were offered in various instances, particularly as a tool for managing budget cuts or reorganizations. For example, after the 2011 Budget Control Act, which led to sequestration and forced spending cuts, agencies like the Department of Defense announced buyout offers to reduce workforce size.
  • Trump Administration (First Term): Although not as widespread as in some previous administrations, there were buyout offers during Trump's first term, particularly in departments like the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to meet workforce reduction goals.
These buyout programs generally involve offering a lump sum payment (up to $25,000) to employees who voluntarily resign or retire, thereby helping agencies to avoid more costly or disruptive measures like reductions in force (RIFs). Each administration's use of buyouts was tailored to specific agency needs, budget constraints, or policy goals, and the specifics of eligibility and implementation varied.

While virtually every right-winger on JPP is beating his chest, taking victory laps because "the swamp is being drained", perhaps more importantly we should focus on figuring out how to prevent it from coming back the next time the other party regains power, which may be as early as the midterms.

This isn't a left or right issue. It's a commonsense issue.

Bloated and indifferent bureaucracy has subsidized corruption and waste for far too long and that needs to end now. How can it be made permanent, though?

It must be thought of!

In the immortal words of the Bard, from Henry V, Act 1, Scene 1, Canterbury: "But what prevention"?

Anyone who believes trump is going to wave his magic wand and make our government and the world a perfect place is a complete and utter rube.

Simple-minded idiots

trump is a clown.

He's going to make everything worse.

The only questions are how much worse and if we can survive him again.

That's true, and I didn't suggest that. Did I?

Is there a single thing that Trump is doing that he didn’t campaign on?

He told the world upfront what he was going to do, and 77.3 million Americans voted for him. Presumably, they knew what he'd promised to do, and they expected him to do it the best he could to keep those promises.

Apparently this was the will of the majority of the voters.

If you believe in democracy, you don’t rage for the machine.

You either support the will of the majority of the voters, or you get out of the way.

So let's not even try to reduce fraud and over spending :dunno:

This Trumpit & Muskit thread epitomizes the moral decline of America- which elected a felon who entertains indicted war criminals in order to attempt to revive 19th century imperialist values for the financial gain of robber barons.

And trump is just going to make it all worse.

You don't round up 11 million people without spending hundreds of billions in doing so.

Not to mention some of the other insane shit trump is talking about.
