That is one of the more Orwellian ideas I've seen in a while. It contains several troubling details.

Of course, the initial national FOID card rollout would need to have all current American citizens run through the background check system, and then issued their own FOID cards as well.

The proposal includes a provision whereby every American citizen is subjected to a background check? So what happens under your system if a person who already has legally purchased firearms refuses to be issued a FOID card? Confiscation? Or is the person simply not allowed to buy any new firearms? Also, can parents refuse to have their children issued a FOID? It looks like it's intended to be MANDATORY.

If a person becomes ineligible to possess a firearm at any point their FOID card would be confiscated and their FOID number would be entered into a universal background check database as ineligible to purchase firearms. This background check database would then be accessible to ALL Americans NOT just FFL dealers.

When they confiscate the card, do they confiscate anything else? Is this law enforcement function performed by current law enforcement personnel or will a new police force consisting of jack booted thugs need to be created?

I'm for it if we can use fake names and addresses......why not just use our photo voter ID?.....
