They weighed it down with weird characters and excessive story. Still, it all came together with Revenge of The Sith. Disney started on a big money grab and made a weird almost cover version of A New Hope. It was so bad. Like Justin Bieber trying to cover One, by Metallica. In the money grab, they killed off one of it's most beloved characters because his actor has too expensive and did a 180 spin on Luke's character.
They also fucked over the video games after they thought everyone at Lucasarts was overqualified, gutted it, and handed it over to EA. I got so fed up I pulled out my old N64 and played some games from the heyday.
Disney basically butchered the franchise and has continued more money grabs. Now I'm going to be quiet so I can just forget about Disney Wars.

Yes, but consider that the Marvel division does a bang-up job, while the Lucasfilm division, under the management of pre-Disney holdovers, is the entity that fails epically. Disney will make plenty of other mistakes. It never really gave itself time to wreck the sequels from outside of the Lucasfilm division.
Force Awakens was a travesty, though. I hate it more than everyone else hates Last Jedi.
