NC boy makes top 25 of national mullet contest

CARTHAGE, N.C. (WTVD) -- A local boy's quest to be named the 2022 USA Mullet Youth Champion has landed him in the top 25.

Emmett is from Carthage.

His mom, Abby Miller, reached out to ABC11 after he made it to the top 100 of the contest.

He has been growing his hair since COVID started and barbershops were closed.

When he finally got a haircut, he decided he wanted a mullet.

Also known as the Mississippi Mudflap and the Kentucky Waterfall, this hairstyle was first called a mullet in the 1967 movie "Cool Hand Luke," starring Paul Newman and George Kennedy. In it, Kennedy's character calls Southern men with long hair "mullet heads."
