Rep. Don Bacon (Neb.), a moderate Republican, said he’s concerned about the U.S. economy, noting his state saw a 6 percent annual drop in real gross domestic product (GDP) in the first quarter of 2025.

In an interview with CNN’s Phil Mattingly, Bacon pointed to the recent jobs data and the latest round of tariffs as reason for his pessimism about the economy.

“From my vantage point here in Nebraska, we’re seeing a bit of a troubled economic mess — or, right now, it’s a troubled time,” Bacon said.

“In Nebraska, the GDP here has decreased by 6 percent over the last year, and it’s all about trade. It’s all about getting corn and soybeans out the door,” Bacon continued. “So, what I hear with, you know, weak jobs numbers, we’re sort of seeing that in Nebraska right now.”

That was the FIRST QUARTER, dumbass.

Nebraska's GDP in the first quarter of 2025 saw a significant decline, with some reports indicating a decrease of 6.1%. However, the second quarter (Q2) of 2025 saw an increase of 3.0% at an annualized rate, according to the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis. This growth is a recovery from the first quarter's decline.

what a moron.

The Commerce Department’s Bureau of Economic Analysis released a report in late June showing real GDP in the first quarter of 2025 decreased in 39 states, with Nebraska and Iowa showing the largest decline, with annual rates of -6.1 percent. Declines in agriculture contributed most significantly to the drop.
The FIRST QUARTER. ARE YOU SOBER RIGHT NOW?
WHY IS THIS SO HARD FOR YOU TO GRASP???

And then rebounded massively in Q2 per the BEA on July 30.

We are now in Q3....can you keep up?

Your silliass desperation is hilarious.

Republicans fear Trump tariffs are cutting into economy

Republicans on Capitol Hill are feeling jittery about the economy after the latest jobs report showed the economy added far fewer jobs than previously estimated over the past three months.

President Trump and his economic team insist the economy is going strong and poised for significant growth, but their bullish projections are meeting skepticism from some in the GOP who worry Trump’s trade regime is creating economic headwinds.

“It definitely is indicative of a weakened economy, an economy that’s not acting in a robust fashion. I’ve all along felt like there’s a lag between tariffs and actual economic downturn,” Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) said.

I subscribe to The Bulwark. It's a never-trumper podcast run by several former Republican operatives. They have a feature where they do focus groups of trump voters - in one I saw recently several are going "what the fuck" over the ICE thugs and tariffs. They even are starting to push back against the ICE masked thugs tackling grandmas. I think things are looking good for the Dems right now - trump world is helping push voters into our laps - the one thing we need to come up with is another "Obama". America now appreciates performance over productions - so we need to come up with an Oprah type the country can get behind!

Oh another pushback from Republicans - the billionaire talking head on CNBC who shit all over Obama for his bailing out of people overleveraged on their mortgages? They're all going "What have you been smoking?" to trump's firing of the labor stats lady!

And Paul is wrong again...per usual. The BEA numbers completely contradict claims of a "weakened economy", despite the continued Demleft lies....

Since when did you start caring about Nebraska?

I am curious where you got your Q2 numbers for Nebraska from since BEA only released first quarter numbers on June 27 and won't release Q2 until September.

These morons were warned about trump, but they voted for him anyway. Things do NOT look good for Dems right now. By the mid terms, the Supreme Court will have done away completely with the Voting Rights Act. As we speak, Texas is about to violate what is left of the VRA by redrawing districts to deny black representation throughout the state. When the Supreme Court upholds this, many states will follow suit.

We are watching the end of democratic rule.

Link to where the BEA released Q2 numbers for individual states on July 30?

They released the preliminary Q2 numbers for the national economy. Those preliminary numbers will be revised.

If we froze time in the first quarter he'd almost have a point, but since we are not Timelords... with great names like "The Master" and "The Doctor"... we have to work in the now... and right now and in Q2 there is GDP growth in Nebraska.
