The amount is a little puzzling....$1.7 billion ?


  • FY2009 Obama administration has proposed around $130 billion in additional funding for the Iraq War and Afghanistan.
  • FY2011 Obama administration proposes around $159.3 billion for the Iraq and Afghanistan wars.

Thats about $280 billion alone.....

Obama spent 280 billion in these two years alone and you 're all excited about 1.7 billion that isn't accounted for....thats about .6 % of what Obama spent...

This is money that isn't accounted for or was used fraudulently.

I have opposed the wars, therefore, I oppose all that is spent on them, with the exception of the care of the soldiers.

Why ?....Rana ignores the topic and attacks me personally and gets a pass....I expect the same latitude, it called fairness....

1.7 billion is .6% of what Obama spent in just 2 years.....its peanuts....more money gets spent on Obama gold trips and AF1 vacations, whats the big deal....

and its probably a bullshit figure......I'd guess that the money lost to fraud in past 12 years is far far higher than this minute crap of 1.7 billion....

The story is talking about reconstruction, not the entire cost of the war. The Cost of War project say the Department of Defense's direct spending on Iraq totaled at least $757.8 billion, but also highlighting the complementary costs at home, such as interest paid on the funds borrowed to finance the wars and a potential nearly $1 trillion in extra spending to care for veterans returning from combat through 2050.

Why doesn't it bother you that the cost of this war was kept off the books for years?

Wrong. It means the article didn't address the costs unaccounted from combat, equipment, payroll, veteran health care, veteran disability, etc. And how can you just brush off the criminality that led to any money being unaccounted for? You said "surprisingly low", that doesn't make it acceptable.

We borrowed money and financed the war entirely through debt at the same time people got tax cuts. There were supplemental spending bills. There was no shared sacrifice, bush's solution was for us to go shopping.
