Governor Andrew Cuomo announced Monday that movie theaters would reopen in New York City next month, welcome news for an industry that has been battered by the coronavirus pandemic for nearly a year.

New York has long been one of the most important markets for movie theaters. With it reopening for business, studios may be more inclined to release big films that theaters desperately need to lure in customers. Since the pandemic, these type of films have either been delayed or offered via streaming services.
Theaters would also have a shot at pulling themselves out of the financial tailspin they've been in since last March. Going to the movies again— one of America's most beloved cultural institutions — could fend off the industry's extinction.
But will anyone show up?
"That's the $64,000 question, isn't it?" Jeff Bock, senior analyst at entertainment research firm Exhibitor Relations, told CNN Business.

In the two years before the pandemic I was seeing a lot of stuff on the internet to the tune "Why are we doing this, it is so expensive and so not great" re movies...it was not just the set-up of the theaters though that was part of the problem...the really big thing though were reports that the customers were increasingly not behaving and ruining the experience. I have barely gone to movies for years because the quality has been so bad for so long, Hollywood really hit the skids around 2010, but I believed the stories. I think people are pretty much over it, and now that so many movies will be streaming just 6 weeks after release, at a fraction of the cost, when we have gotten so used to not going to the theater...I think the cinema business is toast.

Probably not since the place is filled with pussies.

Kids and young adults go to the movies. Most movies are made for that demographic. Adults do better with Netflix.
