Sheriff Joe Arapaio is a national disgrace. Among the Pulitzer prizes awarded today was one to Ryan Gabrielson and Paul Giblin of the East Valley Tribune (Mesa, Arizona) for its coverage of Arpaio's immigration enforcement policies.

The Pulitzer committee noted that Gabrielson and Giblin received the award for “their adroit use of limited resources to reveal, in print and online, how a popular sheriff’s focus on immigration enforcement endangered investigation of violent crime and other aspects of public safety.“

Yeah, heaven forbid a sheriff should actually enforce the laws of this country. Perish the thought. Did the prize winning article reveal just how it is Arpaio has been able to win re-election five times?

Most law enforcement officers manage to do their jobs without getting a record like arpaio's. Any Arizona taxpayers who fund this guy's actions by voting for him 5 times deserve what they get.

From 2004 through November 2007, Arpaio was the target of 2,150 lawsuits in U.S. District Court and hundreds more in Maricopa County courts; 50 times as many prison-conditions lawsuits as the New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, and Houston jail systems combined...

By mid-2007, more than $50 million in claims had been filed against the sheriff's office and Maricopa County...

For Maricopa counties Hitler-esqe human rights abuses they shouldn't have any money left for the next 50 years. They should have the county government taken over by the feds and the children taken away from the parents so that they can be taught in a loving enviroment. Anyone who voted for Arpaio should get life in prison and arpaio should be treated to justice in the most painful way possible.
