Newpapers have fired the field reporters. Relying on editors as a desk, they simple opine on events rather than doing the work of getting the facts.
It is about objectivity, but you have to have a staff of reporters.

Good post. Too bad most people get their news from opinion networks like MSNBC, CNN and fox
