Yes, I can see how if you wanted to continue justifying love and adoration of Trump, you would have to imagine that Trump was just "joking around" about Zelensky being a dictator and Ukraine being to blame for getting invaded.

It was a negotiation tactic to make Zelenski more malleable to taking a deal to stop the killing on both sides of the war.

Trump has never said anything genuinely supportive of Zelensky, and in three years Trump has never given the slightest indication he wants Ukraine to prevail on terms favorable to them, even when directly asked about it.
