NINETY Iraqi students killed for having 'strange hair and tight clothes'

I wonder if they were just acting out the fantasies of US conservatives.

I sent this to my Iraqi friend Neil Attisha and he replied back.

I had to deal with this when I briefly went back to live in Iraq for just 3.5 years in early 1970s. The mayor of Baghdad, who just happened to be Saddam Hussain's father-in-law, was doing this, but not to this extent. They were shaving men's heads on the spot, and painting girls' legs if they had a mini skirt on. This has just got worse, because with the freedoms they have been given by the Americans, they can behave as nastily and as stupidly as this. This is just swapping one dictatorship, which was secular, with another that is sectarian and religious.

Regards
Neil

Other sovereign nations can govern themselves as they see fit.

In this country, we don't allow religious intolerance to dictate public policy.

I think it likely that Christian fundamentalists and Muslim extremists have more in common than members of either sect will admit.

This thread isn't about the US, now is it? The salient issue is just swapping one dictatorship, which was secular, with another that is sectarian and religious.
There was a reason why the Ba'ath Party ruthlessly suppressed the Shia, maybe you need to be reminded of the Iraq-Iran war which lasted eight years. The US has inadvertently allowed what the Shia could never achieve under Saddam.

You think it was inadvertent?

Of course it was, Bush when questioned on the subject prior to the 2003 war was incapable of understanding the difference between Shia and Sunni. They just steamed in regardless allowing the PNAC fools to run the show. I doubt even now if those in charge have much awareness of the huge ideological divide that exists between Shias and Sunnis, in the fullness of time they will rue the day that they opened up that festering wound.

G. As Americans, we should ignore the Alien and Sedititon act.

Good fucking thing we killed 4000 of our boys and several trillion dollars to give them democracy.

Too bad Obama threw that sacrifice down the drain.....

Maybe he'll give us another speech about the religion of peace and love......when its obvious they are undeniably barbarians.....
