NOKIA Piece of sh!t

Here's the story.

We purchased a cell phone the beginning of January for my father-in-law, who is 80 years old, because he has cancer and we wanted him to be able to call in case of an emergency. Two weeks later he was on the phone and noticed the phone would disconnect while chatting. Upon further inspection he saw that the back was missing and the battery was coming loose. The back of the phone had come off. It was lost.

We returned the phone to the place of purchase and asked for a new back and was told they do not carry parts. It has to be sent to the repair center.

"Can you ask the repair center to send you a back for the phone and I will pay for it", I asked.

"We can't do that. They won't send parts. They have to fix the phone themselves", the salesman replied.

"OK", I agreed. "Please send the phone for repairs."

"I can't do that", the man countered

"Why", I questioned.

"Because the phone is missing a part", he explained.

"I know the phone is missing a part. That's why it requires repair", I stated.

"All I can suggest is you contact Nokia and speak to someone there", he concluded.

So, I phoned the Head Office of the outlet where I purchased the phone. They also told me to call Nokia.

I called Nokia and explained my problem.

"We do not send parts to customers. Have the store where you bought it send it back to us for repair," they advised.

"But the store won't send it back because a part is missing", I explained.

"All I can suggest is you look on the internet for spare parts", the lady responded.

"Look on the internet for spare parts", I questioned. "The phone is less than one month old. What about the 30 day warranty?"

"That covers defective parts. We can't tell if the part was defective if it is missing", she replied.

Is it me or has the world gone crazy?

BTW, the price of the part, wholesale, is $1.72.

Just thought I'd pass this along if anyone is considering purchasing a NOKIA phone.

It's a good thing for them I wasn't there.

Yea...I bet. My sweet little wife turns vicious pit wolfy when it comes to stuff like this. She would have badgered them until they gave her a new phone just to shut her up.

For quite a while now we've used Paygo phones. It's a little pricier but you don't have to put up with the ugly surprises the phone companies love to mail you each year. Only bankers are more creative at finding ways to screw you out of money.

The moral of the story is: Buy Motorola...
I have an old Motorola that I will give away. I have a newer Motorola that I want to replace...then maybe give away. I have been a Motorola fan since the mid fifties when we were "KGU 219" with a one hundred foot tower. My first car phone was a Motorola with a handset that looked like it was stolen from my desk phone.

UPDATE: After firing off a letter to our service provider, from whose company we purchased the phone, explaining we had enriched their coffers by $7,000.00 over the last ten (10) years and our three (3) year contract ends this year perhaps they would be interested in reviewing our situation before we started shopping around for an alternate provider.

They emailed to inform us that if we purchased a new phone they would credit the amount to our account. That worked for us.

We purchased a new phone and a copy of the receipt will be promptly mailed to them. I expect the credit to take up to six weeks to process. The good Lord and JPP willing I'll be here to post an update.

Exactly. My Motorola has been run over (three times), dropped off of two story buildings, thrown across parking lots, beat, and all around abused for over two years. Just recently I had to replace the battery.

I'm not suprised. They practically give you a phone is you sign a contract these days and if your a long time customer then it's not usually to hard to talk them into giving you a phone or doing a twoferone deal.

But I'm convinced Paygo is the way to go. Last year I bowed to pressure from my wife and got a Verizon phone and contract that had a buy out option. I was real clear with the sales clerk. Be straight up and tell us what the fees are and what they will cost us so we don't get any ugly surprises in the mail. The first two months we got outrageous bills cause they had not explained data usage and text msg fees clearly. I paid them off, cancled the contract and baught two paygo phones and a magic jack. I now spend about $50-70/month on those 3 phones. The down side of a paygo phone is you pay more upfront for the phone and your voice/data rates are a little higher but they can only screw you out of a $20 load, worst case scenario.

WOW! That gal in your sig is a wild one, isn't she?
Yeah she is, but that has nothing to do with my phone. Unless you count her helping build my throwing arm ;).

That's just the way life is with me. I am the ultimate product reliability tester.
