Maybe a stoned driver?

Deputies are looking for the driver of a dark-colored vehicle that struck a pedestrian in Penn Mill Lakes subdivision north of Covington.

A couple was walking along Penn Mill Lakes Boulevard when the passing car hit a woman, the sheriff's office said.

The driver fled the scene in the vehicle.

The woman, who was not identified by authorities, was transported to St. Tammany Parish Hospital in Covington.

A Covington defense attorney who recently was arrested and booked with possession with intent to distribute marijuana was receiving illegal drugs in exchange for legal services, according to the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office.

James Mecca, 55, was arrested after he was pulled over near his law office on North Vermont Street for failure to properly stop or yield.

Mecca had a half-pound of high-grade marijuana on him, Capt. Barney Tyrney said.
