This is another problem with blacks. You try to help them by giving them free stuff and then when it ends, they scream they have a "right" to the freebies.

ALBANY – Gov. Kathy Hochul declared a “food emergency” across the state Thursday as SNAP benefits for needy New Yorkers will stop this weekend due to the federal shutdown.

An additional $65 million will be freed up to go to food pantries, soup kitchens and other emergency food providers across the state as the federal shutdown reached 30 days, Hochul announced at a food bank in Harlem.

“We’re not going to be passive observers to this,” she said, blaming Republicans in Washington for the stalemate that led to the looming freeze on the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program.
The freeze on SNAP means low-income households will see no new funding for Electronic Benefit Transfer cards after Saturday.

New York has joined with 25 other states in suing the Trump administration to try and force it to tap into contingency funds to keep benefits flowing.

She can use state funds to prop up SNAP.

I believe that USDA is not obligated to reimburse NY state, however.
 
House Republicans passed a short-term CR on September 19, 2025 (H.R. 5371), funding the government at FY2025 levels through November 21 without new policy changes. This bill would maintain current funding levels, so ACA subsidies would continue uninterrupted through December 31 (as they are already authorized under existing law).

A majority of Senate Democrats won't vote to end cloture so the CR can proceed.

Democrats' counter-proposals bundle CR funding with permanent subsidy extensions and reversals to Medicaid cuts fromexisteing law totaling ~$1.5 trillion in demands.

That's far from a clean bill.
 
Delta calls for end to government shutdown.

The Democrats refuse to vote for a clean CR because they want to continue giving free healthcare to illegals and for “leverage.”
