Over eight years, and a good number of those were retirees. Obama didn’t replace the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs early until their term expired keeping Bush’s appointee Mullen till his term expires. Obama also didn’t fire officers inorder to plant loyalist but to correct what he saw as less than expected performance
