Well I think Christianity taken literally just doesn't have as much room for mlitiancy as Islam. Muhammad not only founded a religion, he took over most of the Saudi peninsula in his life alone. That can be mostly attributed to the elements he put into the religion, IMHO.

Members of fundementalist religions do NOT live by the standards you/we set ourselves. They are out to win. If you are not one of them you are with the devil and as such not worthy of consideration. Hey, I've been gone a few days (had to go visit the in-laws over the holiday) and haven't had a chance to check in. I can't believe a thread on education has devolved into a discussion of me being a danger to my students. First, thanks to everyone for coming to my defense. Second, I will assure Lowicue that I am not a pedophile nor even remotely interested in becoming one and the comparison ... well, let's just say that it was "out there." I don't know where that came from. As most people here have noted, I am a fundamentalist Christian and do not apologize for that. I do believe the Bible to be the word of God and word for word inspired by Him. I do not wish to have a discussion with this gentleman in Hong Kong about the validity of that belief as it would prove fruitless for both of us. By the way Lowicue, this is how I handle my "proselytizing." I only talk to someone who takes a legitimate interest. I don't walk the streets (or the classroom) preaching like John the Baptist. So, thanks to everyone and have a happy holiday season.

At no time did I ever say or suggest that you were a paedophile or that you showed paedophilic tendencies. I said, and I stand by what I said, that fundemental religion is dangerous, that it harms more children than paedophilia and that it should be banned.
If you do not bring your fundementalism into school then I would question your claim to be a fundementalist since one of the main tenets, if not the main tenet of fundementalist christians is to proselytize.
Incidentally I make no distinction between fundementalist christians and fundementalist anything else. There are no 'well meaning' fundementalists. There are no fundementalists, as far as I know, who when faced with a question concerning the nature of life and the reason or happenstance of life from a child in their care, will not answer from a position of total belief in the bible.
