[8/16/16] Aetna said it will reduce by more than 500 U.S. counties its participation in public exchanges under the Affordable Care Act in the face of hundreds of millions of dollars in losses.

In 2017, Aetna said it will be in just 242 counties, down from 778. Aetna will remain on-exchange in just four states: Delaware, Iowa, Nebraska and Virginia, compared to 15 states where it operates this year.

Monday night’s announcement comes after Aetna AET -0.41% said earlier this month that it would evaluate all of its individual plans in 15 states. Humana HUM -0.77% has already said it is pulling off most ACA exchanges for next year. And rivalUnitedHealth Group UNH -0.85%, too, is scaling back to three states, leaving AnthemWLP +% and Blue Cross and Blue Shield plans as the main Obamacare providers across the country.

We should ban health insurance. 60 years ago most americans did not have health insurance and health care was fine and much much cheaper. Health care works better without a third party payment system. If everyone has to pay their own medical bills.then

1. People take care of their health and when they got sick, they doctor themselves

2. People haggle with doctors over prices

3. There is very little fraud.
 
I would not be that dramatic... its not dead, it will limp along for quite a while.

Eventually there will be political will, once the people demand it, to fix Obamacare. Thus far the Republicans have had a repeal or nothing attitude but have never proposed anything specific to replace it.

ACA is not dead because of Aetna. ACA is going to die because Obama signed an omnibus spending bill that cut funding for risk corridors. Thank Republicans for working tirelessly to take away your health insurance.
 
Obamacare is not a long term solution due to the lack of a public option.

Besides with all the deductibles, co-pays, and premiums we are seeing rise through the roof. What the fuck is the point of HC insurance anyway?

Other than a catastrophic event, you might as well take all that money, store it away, and it would be cheaper in the long run.

Its sort of like car insurance. You pay 70-200 a month and virtually get zero benefit. If you have minimum coverage all it does is insurance you from liability. Doesn't even go to fixing your car.

Yeah - a middle class family pays $1000 a month for insurance with a $5000 deductible and that's $17,000 a year right there.

60 years ago - when most americans did NOT have health insurance - a night in a hospital cost as much as an average worker made in a day. Now it's more like 3 weeks!!!

Once Trump's infantile antics has assured a Democratic majority in both houses, Hillary and Congressional Democrats can begin modifying ObamaCare free from Republican obstructionism, which is what hampered the creation of ObamaCare in the first place.
 
Obamacare is working as planned. It wasn't designed to insure the uninsured. That is what the gullible were led to believe. It was designed to crippled private insurance and usher in single payer. Obamacare is working as planned.

As to the fix for health care and how we pay for it? It is simple but people would never go for it because they have been trained that "someone else pays the bill".

1) treat medical insurance like home owners. You cover things that can bring you financial ruin (heart attack, cancer etc) and CASH for everything else.
2) allow insurers to sell across state lines
3) decouple medical insurance from employment

These very small changes would bring about dramatic cost savings. But as I said it can never happen because people are sheep. They deserve what they are about to get

It has helped them, its better than what we had.
 
If we had sanders now instead of Clinton, we'd be talking about how to transpose to single pay.
Instead we're trying to keep Obamacare on life support
