Obama's 'Shovel-Ready' Joke Draws Criticism, Corrections

The White House defended its record Tuesday on the stimulus after facing a heap of criticism over President Obama's joke a day earlier that "shovel-ready" projects in the stimulus bill weren't so shovel-ready after all.

The president's wisecrack came during a meeting in North Carolina with his jobs council. After hearing concerns about how the permitting process delays construction, Obama smiled and said: "Shovel-ready was not as shovel-ready as we expected."

The joke -- a reference to the pitch used by the Obama administration to push the stimulus plan in 2009 -- elicited chuckles from other members of the jobs council.

But Republicans weren't laughing Tuesday, noting that unemployment is higher now than when Obama signed the stimulus.

very funny mr. president.....ha ha ha...hopefully the joke will be on you when you hopefully your reelection campaign.

Aside from funding the permitting delays are really the only thing that politicians have control over. Once again, government can't solve the problem- it is the problem.

Yeah, millions of people without jobs - what a riot!

Now just imagine how the libs would react if Boooosh said something like that.

obama is handing his candidates great campaign fodder...

Bush was average by my estimation, especially considering the shitty hand he was dealt. Iraq was optional (and a mistake, in my opinion), but I believe things will work out in the long term. Iraq will become like Turkey - a modern, middle income Islamic state.

Barack Obama, on the other hand, will go down in history as one of the worst, most ineffective Presidents.

agreed....even with his "legacy" on health care reform he just handed the ball over to Congress and the resultant mess didn't look anything like what he originally said he wanted.....he's definitely more "token" than "leader"......amazing, given that his party held such a mandate that he could tell the right "I won, deal with it"......

now the question becomes "he won, how's that working for you?"......
