I had occasion to agree with a Trump loving friend yesterday. We were discussing the coronavirus and the economy...

...and he said, "Trump is doing the best he can to handle them."

I agreed enthusiastically.

He is! The best HE can.

Incredibly, my friend considered that to be a point in Trump's favor.

I, on the other hand, see it as a reason to get him out of the job of president as quickly as possible. We need someone in there who can do MUCH better.

Almost anyone with a high school education would fit that bill.

(Using "high school education" was being kind to Trump.)

Who would be best? I'd say anyone who would leave it to the CDC...and stop fucking with them. Ya know, someone who would realize the CDC scientists actually know more about how to deal with a virus that the fucking ignorant, stupid, narcissistic, classless boor now in the office.

Is that the only statement he's made? That was March 10. Many politicians, left and right, have said some pretty stupid things regarding the virus. That wasn't close to being the dumbest.
Fact is nobody really knows much about it. It may not go away or it might. A vaccine may be developed, or not. None has ever been made for HIV but HIV is now controlled.
So any statement is conjecture.
Trump 's full statement was "‘It Will Go Away, Just Stay Calm’. In that regard, I have. About the only thing I do different is maintain anti-social distancing and wear a muzzle only when there's a sign on the door of a business requiring me do do so if I want to enter.

There was no travel ban it was a Chinese citizen ban. Just so happens the places with the most cases were the largest hubs for business travel and dealings betwween China.

It was clear what was going on in China. It's not as though we had to re-invent the wheel, we already saw what was occurring. Trump appeared to fall asleep at the wheel.

Someone who believes in science and listens to the pandemic experts would have been nice. That is what Obama, Biden and Clinton would have done. Trump spun his wheels for over 6 weeks. He denied the facts over and over.

It would have been nice but there are no real experts because pandemics are so rare and so little is known about this virus. I just think it's beyond stupid to politicize this, including Trump, to do so.
Scientists will err on the side of complete safety, i.e., recommend martial law , quarantine and complete shutdown of the economy until the virus is eradicated, forever if needed although Sweden is proof that doesn't necessarily work.
Then you have to weigh in the practicality of that scenario. I suspect many a bread earner would risk getting infected, recovering and then be immune if it means feeding his family.

That is what Obama, Biden and Clinton would have done.

Sure , whatever. None of us have any idea what they would have done although I strongly suspect Obama would have used coronavirus to implement penalties for those that exhibited personal responsibility and rewards those those that didn't. I thought he was brilliant at that.
hrc would have made decisions based on the latest polls, and Biden is in la la land.
