Finally, Clooney weighs in on Rudy Giuliani. "[He] might end up winning the nomination from the Christian right. That tells you the rest of the country is a little bit moved away from the idea of this 'Jesus is right about everything kind of mood'. I'm not knocking religion, but there was a reason that we left England."

Of course, that reason was taxation without representation. Nothing to do with Jesus, George. Just setting the record straight.

NOOOO actually and i know this b/c i learned it on a tour of the Salisbury Cathedral in England, we actually had the revolutionary war and left england due to the Church of England.

Religion played a major role in the American Revolution by offering a moral sanction for opposition to the British--an assurance to the average American that revolution was justified in the sight of God. As a recent scholar has observed, "by turning colonial resistance into a righteous cause, and by crying the message to all ranks in all parts of the colonies, ministers did the work of secular radicalism and did it better."

Religion causes most if not all wars. Most since Iraq was b/c bush hated saddam

The rebellion was because of the Church of England and their "forced" form of religion. IE, a state sponsored religion. Who were the people who came over here. People of all kinds but most of them religious people who wanted to worship as they saw fit to worship. We kid ourselves if we think religion played no role in the American Revolution and we kid ourselves if we think that freedom from religion played no role in the American revolution.

Rob states that "Religion causes most if not all wars." I would only add this. Misguided, false religion causes most if not all wars.

Correct.

Both factors played a part in the war. For O'Reilly to fend off Clooney's argument that it was mostly about religion by saying that it was ALL about that 1 cent or so tax, however, was obtuse.
