Yusef Salaam, one of five Black and Latino teenagers wrongly convicted of a 1989 rape in Central Park, is running for a New York City Council seat in Harlem.
Salaam is one of the Central Park Five, whose arrest prompted Donald Trump to publicly call for the death penalty when they were charged with a horrific crime which they did not commit.
Trump took out full-page ads in four New York newspapers calling for the restoration of the death penalty over the case. In 2002 they were exonerated after a convicted sex killer confessed and was linked to the crime by DNA evidence.
Trump has never acknowledged the five’s innocence. “You have people on both sides of that,” he said when asked about it in 2019.

As far as I know, the only time Trump ever admitted he may have been wrong about anything was when he backed off the Obama birth certificate baloney in 2016.
He blamed Hillary for it.
