Only 65,000 deaths- time for a victory lap

President Donald Trump is being blasted for his apparent bragging about and celebrating “only” 60,000 to 65,000 coronavirus deaths. The actual number of Americans who have died so far is currently 37,095, but Trump is projecting a little less than twice that number will lose their lives to the virus he spent months ignoring until it was too late.

Friday evening Trump spent several minutes rattling off a long litany of numbers, comparing his projected coronavirus deaths to other possible horrific death projections, in a clear attempt to frame his disastrous mismanagement of the pandemic. As he did, many took to social media to slam the President’s callous lack of empathy.
“We’ve already built sufficient capacity nationwide so states can begin their re-openings. And I think you’ll be hearing a lot about re-openings in the coming weeks and months,” Trump told reporters during Friday’s coronavirus briefing.

“Most excitingly in the coming weeks I think you’re going to see some very, very dramatic steps taken – and very safely,” Trump bragged.

“When you look at the possible deaths at 2.2 million people – and it could have very well been that, it could have been more,” the president continued, as he continued to pat himself on the back. “Frankly I’ve been looking at numbers where it could have been higher than that. 2.2 million people dying. If you figure we lost 500,000, maybe 600,000 in the Civil War, 2.2 million people, a minimum if we did nothing would have been 1.6, if you cut that in half, you’re talking about 800,000 [to] 900,000 – a million people dying.”

“But we did a lot of work, and the people of this country were incredible, I have to say, I think we’re heading to the other category, that would be if we did work, and if it was successful they had between 100,000 and 220,000 to 240,000 on the upside, and I think we’ll be substantially, hopefully below the ‘100’ number, and I think right now we’re headed probably around ’60,’ maybe 65,000.”

How many of these lives could have been saved had trump acted responsibly beginning on day 1.

No matter how many died from the president's lack of leadership he is going to spin it as a good thing.

Vote him out by mail before November 3rd.

But the rabbit is out the hat, he is only selling his act to the Fox bubble, rest of Americans see thru the charade

2/3 of Americans are concerned that opening the country up for business too soon will spark a second wave of deaths.

They are afraid to send their children back to school without adequate testing.

The president claimed yesterday that we already have adequate testing.

Fact: Only about 1% of Americans have been tested.

At this rate it's easy to see that 100,000 + will come soon.

No worries. According to the resident self-declared health experts, only a dozen or so of them are actual COVID deaths. The rest are LW media lies.

Yes, they do, but come November when it's Trump, the bird in the hand/devil we know or Biden, two in the bush/devil we don't, then I think the vote is going to be a lot closer than you think. The incumbent, no matter how fucked up, has an advantage. If the Democrats had a Rock Star it would be a sure thing, but they don't so it isn't.

Trump is a fucking moron he'd have to screw up a lot more to be certain of losing in November.

I doubt before the election, but maybe by the end of the year if a second wave hits as projected. This is, of course, given there is no vaccine or cure on the mass market by the end of the year.

65K rising exponentially, this number can become very large in a short amount of time.

Agreed. This is why I think Governors and mayors are reluctant to say "It's okay everybody. Let's par-tey!". If they guess wrong and a lot of Americans end up dead like at the pork plant then they are toast in an election. It's why Trump made a big deal about being in charge then punted to the Governors. He's worried about taking even more blame for dead Americans.

That's a real possibility.

That's a real possibility.

We went from one US death by COVID on 29FEB20 to over 37,700 today. That's less than 7 weeks. It's not rocket science or a vast Left Wing conspiracy to expect at least as many deaths in the remaining 26 weeks until the election. Unlike flu there is no "season", no vaccines and no established treatments....even then, over 60,000 are projected to die of the flu this year. COVID is worse and these idiots are denying its lethality.

That is not the problem. We know what Trump is. It is his followers who are twisting his facts and lies into positives in their brains. They see his lies piling up and they translate it to truth and fine leadership. It is clear no matter how badly Trump fucks it all up, his followers have found a messiah. They believe and will continue to believe until Trump is gone. Trump is a religion or a terrible con. The undeniable fact is it is still working on them.
You can not win by showing them his lies. they see truth in place. When he loses the election they will only see that he was cheated. We need Trump to go away quickly and quietly, but that will not happen. He loves the limelight. He loves his rallies. America is lucky he is old and fat. We may not be permanently damaged by his craziness. But then, we may be.

Welcome back.

Hello Nordberg,

You got that right.

They will say the election was rigged, illegals voted, the whole shmear. And after the election they will continue to go on and on about how great he was. DT will play into this because unlike most presidents he will not honor the code of silence after office. He will be tweeting like crazy, always trying to whip up the conned. Leaving office will not change that for him. He wants to be number one on FB for life.

If we thought DT was a poor winner we aint seen nothing like what he will be as the sore loser.

What needs to happen is there has got to be prosecution of some of the many many crimes he is implicated in. It needs to be masterfully done with overwhelming evidence to put him away for life. And let part of the sentence be to take away the freaking phone.
