Biofuels 'will push up oil price'
Opec secretary general Abdalla el-Badri
Abdalla El-Badri made his oil price warning ahead of the G8 Summit
The chief of the Opec oil cartel has warned that investing in biofuels could push oil prices "through the roof", the Financial Times has reported.

Opec secretary general Abdalla El-Badri said moves to use biofuels would make his members consider cutting investment in new oil production, the FT said.

President Bush says the US will cut petrol use by 20% in 10 years, partly through increased use of biofuels.

Opec members control about 40% of the world's oil production.

Mr El-Badri said that while Opec members had so far maintained their investment plans, he added: "If we are unable to see a security of demand... we may revisit investment in the long term."

The warning comes as leaders of the G8 industrialised nations gather for their summit in Germany.

Environmental issues are high on the agenda and the use of biofuels is central to the attempts of many G8 countries to cut their carbon emissions.

Biofuels can be anything made with vegetable matter that burns. They can be used to replace some or all of the petrol used in vehicles.

Time to tap ANWAR and the coasts. That way in five years we will have greater domestic production. Coupled with an increase in alternate energy sources, we can put the hammer to OPEC.

"We don't have the balls as a nation to do that SF."

True. Our "leadership" by the two parties is pathetic at best. Yet we continue to elect these idiots to their positions. We deserve what we get for being so gullible and complacent.

The Republicans seem to have forgotten what diplomacy is and the Dems seem to want to take us back to the days of isolationism... only this time coupled with socialism. Both paths are disasters, but they will more than likely convince the populace yet again that they deserve to be our leaders. Even though the majority of the current national politicians put their self interests above that of the nation.

We do, it is the polis who are bought and paid for that won't do it.
And what insight do you base this on SF ?

Sales of gas guzzlers are still up. Demand for gas is up. No one wants to pay any price for the transition.

The people are too fat, lazy and addicted to the tube to get off their butts and do much of anything constructive.

And also as was stated our wussiticians in Washington are bought and paid for just like we people are. Just keep our cheap chinese stuff coming and let us keep our self esteem up by driving a honkin gas guzzler. Because we do as the tube tells us to.

Hummm....

So the Saudis et al want to play hard ball...cool..let's hit em' back with increased prices on H20,food,luxuries...after all water is a rare commodity in the 'Walking Tent' community...;)

The Saudis just evap seawater with surplus oil and gas....
And China would be glad to sell them melamine laced food...

the best way we can play hardball is to sacrifice a bit on the homefront and expand alternative energy useage.
Quit driving to the video store, use one of the by mail services. the mail runs past your house anyway, so no more fuel used.
Just one miniscule example of how we can reduce energy useage.

A little Emerald's
Awwwhhh Yeahhhh Babe !!!!
Saudi cutting back on oil investments, no new refineries here and dems won't let us drill Alaska & Florida.
And you pea brains still won't buy Exxon's stock. LOFL:clink:

Umm FL is a RED state there spinner....

but then it is always the dems fault ? Even if Jeb pledged to have no drilling off the FL coast...

Lol...

I guess blaming the people makes you feel better when you espouse the lies of the New World Order when you want to feel popular and enlightened?
