Majority of voters now want to undo a pioneering change as public drug use has become rampant

People sprawled on sidewalks and using fentanyl with no fear of consequence have become a common sight in cities such as Eugene and Portland.

Some 6,000 tickets have been issued for drug possession since decriminalization went into effect in 2021, but just 92 people have called and completed assessments needed to connect them to services, according to the nonprofit that operates the helpline.

The number of fatal overdoses in Oregon during the 12 months that ended in May rose 23% from the same period a year earlier to 1,500, according to preliminary federal data.

I just looked up CDC drug overdose stats. The last two years they have data is 2020-2021. Fatal drug overdoses increased 16% nationally.

In Wisconsin, provisional data shows the number of fentanyl overdose deaths in Wisconsin grew by 97 percent from 2019 (651) to 2021 (1,280). The sharp increase in overdose deaths is not only impacting those who use opioids. Cocaine deaths involving synthetic opioids increased by 134 percent from 2019 (182) to 2021 (426).

So, 23% isn’t shocking.

Last year, Oregon overdose deaths increased 41%, compared to a 16% increase nationwide...wonder why:thinking:

Your post said 23%. Which is it?

West Virginia went from 519 fentanyl deaths in 2019 to over 1100 in 2021. Can you do simple math, tardboy?

The point being, you stupid fuck, is that fentanyl overdoses are happening everywhere regardless of whether it is decriminalized or not.

Are all you RW fucktards that illiterate?

Overdose deaths are going up everywhere.

“Our analysis suggests that state decriminalization policies do not lead to increases in overdose deaths,” Corey Davis, an assistant clinical professor at NYU Grossman School of Medicine and the study’s senior investigator, said in a statement.

Over double in Oregon...wonder why:thinking:

Do you not think if it was legal to drive drunk more people would do it?...idiot

Well, duh! This is where the Left never pays attention to history. Opium dens of the late 19th century were tried in part as a way to keep drug abusers in a place away from the public. Those didn't work then, and a variant of that won't work now. But never underestimate the ability of the Left to fuck things up in their ignorance.

Looks like the problem is solving itself.

Substance abuse and addiction is an entirely different animal than somebody having a few too many with his buddies and driving home drunk.

But, simpletons like yourself see things in a simplistic way because that’s the best you’re capable of.

We do know this. That incarceration for small amounts of drugs does not solve the problem of drug abuse. It only exacerbates it.

Without intervention, a meth, heroin, coke, fentanyl abuser/addict is going to use. Putting them in jail without treatment only gets them in the nasty judicial system that is difficult to escape. Once in, they are more likely to return to drug use than if not incarcerated. Clinton’s so-called “War on Drugs” created a mess that we’re still dealing with decades later.

Correlation does not mean causation. That black cat that crossed your path did not really bring you bad luck.
