Sarah Palin Writes an Open Letter to Republican Freshmen Members of Congress Elisabeth Meinecke

Sarah Palin has written an open letter on Fox News' website to freshman members of Congress telling them to stick to the principles that got them elected:

"Some of you have asked for my thoughts on how best to proceed in the weeks and months ahead and how best to advance an agenda that can move our country forward. I have a simple answer: stick to the principles that propelled your campaigns," she writes.

Palin goes on to lay out an incredibly detailed and yet all-encompassing plan for an op-ed, advising them on national security, free-trade agreements, cutting government spending, Israel, checking the growth of spending on entitlements, and advising against the START treaty in the lame duck session.

She's also optimistic of their mission: "You, freshmen lawmakers, can and will be powerful voices in support of foreign policies that protect our interests and promote our values! Thank you for being willing to fight for our values and our freedom!"

It's a beautiful conservative message and rallying cry, but it also certainly sounds like a Palin's roadmap for America, and you can't help but wonder if that road leads to 2012 in her mind. It's all speculation still -- the main reference to 2012 comes here:

"In all this, you should extend a hand to President Obama and Democrats in Congress. After this election, they may finally be prepared to work with Republicans on some of these issues for the good of the country. And if not, we will all be looking forward to 2012."

You can read the op-ed in its entirety here.

if some asked for her thoughts....why the open letter....

smacks of narcissim and mommiesm

I think it smacks of being a voice for those suspicious of the GOP not following through on their promises. She's an opinion, nothing more nothing less.

fair enough...but if obama did this....

How about his lecturing of dems before this last election or during his push for health care reform? Different forum for sure, but amounts to the same kind of political speech...the holding of the proverbial feet to the proverbial fire~ The difference imo is Palin reminding these Freshmen of who got them elected-their constituency; whereas Obama was reminding them of who was in charge-himself.

imo...an open letter wasn't necessary

it seeks to put her in the spotlight and in some sort of leadership position

I think Palin sees herself as a voice who can get the national spotlight and uses that for what she believes to be a responsibility to the "folks". The establishment is unlikely to write such letter. I just don't get the vibe from her of presumtion, but of truly wanting elected politicians to be responsible to the people (the American voter) who put them in office.

Which is not inconsistent if she were leaving her options open for 2012.

(Personally I hope she stays out of that race.)

if and a big if, that is all she intended fine...but i think she is setting ground work for a run in '12

So why couldn't it be both? Would it be so bad to have in a principled candidate a person willing to walk the talk with a core concern for this country and its citizens? Can she not be both sincere about the people and outspoken without being accused of a sinister calculation of motive? For her to be thinking of running is not bad just because she is also outspoken...is it? I am not, or at least not at this time, interested in a candidate Palin for reasons I have already said in other threads, but I don't think her contemplating a run is a character flaw.

She does weild a political influence and I see her using that influence to hold these newly elected politicians to their campaign rhetoric as a good thing, whether she makes a run or not.

she would be a disaster...among other reasons when she rolled her eyes at the teacher in alaska....that spoke volumes about what she really thinks about the citizens of this country

she has a low opinion of others and a high opinion of herself
