Nobody believes that it would stop crimes from being committed or that it would be "hunky-dory", only that he would have been stopped before he had killed so many and would have chosen a different venue so that he could be assured of the only weapon.

There is a reason that people like the Ft. Hood guy and the Virginia Tech guy pick places where guns are banned, it is because they are clearly able to kill more people where they are quite sure they have the only available weapons.
