As a kid I loved Pat Benatar and I loved this song. Homegirl definitely rocked in the 80's. I never really equated this song with gun use but...

Now if all artists decided to follow this path and stopped singing, or making, songs that could be interrupted as gun use could it make a difference?

Pat Benatar has stopped singing ‘Hit Me With Your Best Shot’ in protest of gun violence

Pat Benatar won’t perform her 1980 classic “Hit Me With Your Best Shot” anymore.

Amid ongoing gun violence in America, the singer says she’s come to view the song differently.

“I’m not going to sing it,” Benatar told USA Today.

While the song’s meaning is about strength and resiliency, Benatar said “you have to draw the line” and be aware of lyrics.

“I can’t say those words out loud with a smile on my face, I just can’t,” Benatar said, adding that the decision is her “small contribution to protesting.”

The US is on pace in 2022 to match or surpass its worst year ever for mass shootings, according to the Gun Violence Archive, a non-profit that tracks gun violence incidents across the country.

Benatar said she will continue perform “We Belong,” “Heartbreaker” and other hits from early in her career. “Hit Me With Your Best Shot” peaked at No. 9 on the Billboard Hot 100 and was the singer’s first Top 10 hit.

I know Pat and worked wth her father Andy in the 80's

I did not like that tune back in the day as it was just too close to making it seem like violence against women was ok.
Love Pat though.

Every time I listen to the Beatles White Album, I find 100 new reasons to like it and appreciate it.

John Lennon, one of my favorite songwriters of all times, was always sending out those Dog Whistles with his "I just write em'- You figure them out" songs. It was a bit of wisdom he obviously learned from one of his favorite songwriters- Bob Dylan.

But, one such line that, at the time, I didn't know what the F John was talking about was, "Happiness is a Warm Gun., Mama" and then the followup backing vocal line "Bang Bang, Shoot Shoot"!

But then after John's assassination- I KNEW EXACTLY WHAT THE F he was talking about.

Guns can have a psychological effect on you- Guns can make you do things you wouldn't ordinarily do!

But "Hell is for Children" is Okily Dokily?

I always thought it referred to punches; Even when my "buddy" was chasing me around with a BB gun to it.

I doubt that she has sung it in years with it being so out of touch with the times. A lot of the best artists I grew up with have the problem that much of their library is offensive to the invalides America mints now.

Obviously the pressure will now be ramped up to get Benater to cancel more of her songs. I dont know who owns her library so I dont know who could pull stuff from Youtube, as long as that does not happen I will not suffer, I was never going to see her perform again.
